Lions
of District 17S and visitors-welcome to the
website of Lions Multiple District 17S-the
Cornerstone of Kansas Lionism. For those of you
who aren’t familiar with Lionism and as a
reminder for those of you who are, the motto and
primary purpose of Lions is “WE SERVE”. We look
within our communities, district , state and
around the world to offer our help in all areas
but focusing on sight, youth, the needy and the
environment. This Lions year, the focus of our
International President Sid Scruggs is “A Beacon
of Hope-Shining a Light on Service”.
Lions,
I join President Scruggs in encouraging you to
rededicate yourself to service and to the spirit
of Lionism. Join the members of your local club
to adopt a signature project and to focus on a
youth project in August, a sight project in
October, work for the hungry in December/January
and help out the environment in April. And most
important, look at your community through fresh
eyes and look for needs you may not have seen
before.
Years
ago, the Lion organization was given an
acronym-“Liberty, Intelligence, Our Nation’s
Safety”. President Scruggs has suggested a new
and more relevant acronym-“Loving Individuals
Offering Needed Service.” Lions, YOU are those
loving individuals. How are you making a
difference by offering needed service to your
fellow citizens? Share that with your district,
state and international organization and let
your community know. Finally, THANK YOU for all
you do. It is wonderful to be part of the
world’s largest service organization, but it
means even more to be among all the amazing
Lions of MD17S who are making a huge impact on
southeast Kansas.
