DG 17-S

20010-11

Lion Tonja Wienck has been a member of the Hillsboro Noon Lions for ten years, joining at the invitation of PCC Elfrieda Funk.  A middle school teacher, she initially joined as a result of her involvement with the Hillsboro Leo Club, serving as one of its advisors since its charter.  She remains the primary advisor of the 30+ member club at present.  Tonja’s involvement with Leos has gone on to include service as the K6 Leo chair for seven years and MD 17 Leo chair for four years.  In these positions she has been involved in assisting in the startup of numerous new Leo clubs around the state, organizing district and state leadership activities, helped organize four trips to international conventions for Leos, and made presentations to Lions promoting Leos at club and zone meetings, leadership forums, and district and state conventions.

Tonja has served in various positions in her club and district, including club president,  zone chair, Service dog Chair, Leo Chair and MERL team chair.  She has attended the Great Plains Leadership Training and was an instructor for two year.  She will attend her fourth USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forum in 2010 where she will be a presenter.  She served as 1st Vice District Governor in 2009 and is the 2010-11 District Governor for MD 17S.

Tonja loves being a member of her local club and participating in local service with her fellow members as well as serving in various capacities at the district and state levels.  Her true passions in Lions will always remain with the youth and promotion and growth of the Leo program and with the Leader Dog program.

Tonja is starting her 20th year as a teacher and school counselor at Hillsboro Middle School.  She has a BA in History from Fort Hays State University and a Master’s Degree in School Counseling from Emporia State University.

David, Tonja’s husband, is the current president  of the Hillsboro Evening Lions club and plays an active support role in her Lion involvement.  Her son Evan is a Leo and has been actively involved in Lion and Leo events for as long as he can remember.  Several members of her extended family are active Lions as well in their respective communities.
